Practices to lose 620,000 patients

25-Aug-08

Practices near polyclinics could lose a quarter of their patients to the new GP-led health centres, a Conservative analysis suggests.

By compiling figures from PCTs, the party has found that 1,557 practices in England stand to lose over 620,000 patients between them. On average, they will lose 25 per cent of their list.

For practices in London, that number rises to 30 per cent.

GP revealed exclusively last week that practices were facing the loss of a quarter of their patients.

The party also slammed ‘Labour hypocrisy’, for cutting the MPIG, while guaranteeing income for the new polyclinics.

GPC deputy chairman Dr Richard Vautrey called on the government to redirect investment to existing practices.

He added that PCTs were being ‘forced to site new surgeries where they have buildings rather than where they are needed’ - something also revealed by last week’s GP.

Take the MPIG away, move patients to new surgeries, blame the GP's and hospital infections for problems of NHS. Blame the drug companies for high prices of drugs and make a new institute of National Institute of Cost Effectiveness.

What about all the top down agendas and changes? What about their cost? Who is measuring the amount of money wasted in another new pathway?

Is there any hope?

So long as I can chose which ones go there, I may not have a problem with that!
